It’s a small service city with not a lot to offer really. But we promised ourselves we would walk on the banks of the Yukon river - the mighty Yukon. Which we did. Its a fast moving river here where it narrows through the city, looking pretty dangerous.
The sun was out so we continued to wander around the streets finding quirky little spots that tickled our fancy!
This is outside our hotel. There are several totem poles around town, but I dont think this fellow can be described as a totem pole!
We found this little cabin in a nearby park with no explanation attached. All we can think is that it belonged to squatters who originally habited this area before it was declared a slum area and bulldozed.
This mural took my fancy. Artwork in the local shops was all of this ilk - brightly coloured, and depicting wildlife. This building is for counselling services. Didn’t tell us what the counselling was for, but drug abuse is a huge problem in this part of the world.
And an exception to the rule: some modern architecture- the Yukon Legislative building. Rather like it.
Well, thats it! We have been back in Canada for a few days, but tomorrow we leave it for the last time - we return to Alaska in the morning.
