Today its Glacier Bay. Only 2 cruise ships per day are permitted, and they take in turns to stop for one hour directly underneath Margerie Glacier. The captains slowly turns the ship for an hour so that all cabins and decks get really close up to the face of the glacier. We are so close we can hear the ice cracking and groaning. And special treat we even saw it calving into the sea. Difficult to capture on camera but we managed. The ice face is 250feet high and a mile wide. Awe inspiring.
It was very cold up on the top deck, but Alan and I watched most of this from our cabin balcony.
And if that wasnt enough, while back in our cabin sipping a warming brandy we continue to sail by mountains and even a seal colony on their very own island.
This is a true wilderness. We get to enjoy it all evening - sunset isn’t until 11pm!!!!
