Ketchikan

We have had two days at sea to slow down, catch up on laundry and to get our bearings on the boat.  Failed on the last score!

Anyway, our first stop is Ketchikan - along with 4 other huge vessels!  This tiny town triples in population almost every day of the week during cruising season.

This is our ship - the Golden Princess.

Unfortunately the weather is dismal again, but as for our off shore excursion we chose to go on a de-commissioned crab fishing boat from that “Deadliest Catch” tv series.  The Aleucian Ballad which featured in the second series, has been adapted as a tourist boat.  Took us out to demonstrate how they pull in pots and lines.  It was a lot of fun, and the rain and cold gave us a tiny taste of authenticity!  (Without the rough seas or ice thank goodness)

We also got up close and personal to some bald eagles which are prevalent up here.

So - this is Alaska!
