Juneau

So life on board is getting more familiar - still not tried all the restaurants, but we trot along to all the stage shows for a laugh.  And we are getting a dab hand at all the procedures involved getting on and off board ship.  Today its Juneau.

And a right cold and miserable day it is too.  Still - after all this is Alaska!  It doesnt help when the locals tell us its the first welcome rain they’ve had in a month.

We choose a Grand Tour of all that Juneau has to offer: a Salmon Hatchery, then a a walk to the Mendenhall Glacier.

Finishing up with another garden.  This one is created on the sight of a huge land slide.  Funnily enough an ex Crab Fisherman picked up the land cheap after the slide and was inspired by the trees stuck upside down in the mud with roots in the air - decided to fill the roots with flower beds - quite unique.  The rest of the garden was scattered in the steep hillside, so visitors are driven up through the forest on a narrow windy track - quite hairy in places.

Pity about the rain obliterating the views!  Again, this is Alaska after all!  The forests cant exist without the all the water.  In Alaska they call it liquid sunshine.
