Even wilder

So we haven’t seen much in the way of wild life yet. Had hoped to see moose walking down the Main Street of Banff, but it was not to be.  So our first close encounters of the wild kind came at a wild life rescue sanctuary.  Ah well - thats progress for you.
This fellow was so lazy he was grazing while lying down!

This hairy fellow is a porcupine.  In fact we actually saw one in the wild a couple of days ago on a “bush walk”.  Some people were pointing up in a tree saying “look at the porcupine”.  We though they were mad!  It looked more like a very hairy koala bear to us - and had no idea that they actually DO climb trees!  Up close and personal there are no signs of spines at all.  So our schoolbook knowledge of the creatures has been way off the mark!

And this is a black bear up a tree, pretending tp he a koala!

Believe it or not this is a wolf!  A ferocious hunter!!!!

Our first encounter with a grizzly, and the fellow completely ignore us!

This place rather like Western Plains Zoo, the difference being that these orphaned or rescued creatures will most likely be returned to the wild.

Classic setting. This is the Alaskan Wildlife Concervation Centre.
