Just a stunning sight. The lake is much smaller than we expected, its like an intimate little valley. The downside to that is that the school holidays have just started and the place gets packed during the day. It didnt bother us today though, because in the morning we had a presentation from a retired “Mountie” telling us all about their history, describing their ceremonial uniform etc. (I didnt know that they even had detectives who dont wear the uniform at all, and they certainly dont all ride horses any more - they even have helicopters!)
We then decided to take a walk beside the lake - then thought - lets take a track away from the crowds - lets go up to the Tea House track. It’s only 3.4 km. Just under 1km longer than the lakeside walk. That’s only 9 holes on the golf course after all.
What we didnt realise was that it was all uphill!! And pretty steep and rocky in places too. But once we got past the halfway mark we couldn’t waste all that effort: we just had to get to the top! It was quite some trek for us oldies, but we were certainly away from the crowds (there were still a fair few people nonetheless) and the views were amazing.
